What counts as taxable income in China
This calculator treats your gross annual employment income, in CNY, as taxable income, then subtracts an estimated standard deduction of ¥60,000 and applies the 2026 brackets above.
Individuals residing in China for 183+ days in a tax year are resident on worldwide income; a 'six-year rule' can exempt foreign-source income for shorter-term foreign residents.
Common deductions and allowances: Standard monthly deduction, already folded into the ¥60,000 annual threshold; Special additional deductions: children's education, continuing education, housing loan interest or rent, elderly care, and major medical expenses.
Social insurance + housing fund is separate from income tax and is not included in the estimate. Employees typically contribute around 10-12% of salary to social insurance (pension, medical, unemployment) plus the Housing Provident Fund, both matched at a higher rate by the employer.
