No income tax FAQ

Which countries have no personal income tax?+

In our 2026 data, 15 countries levy no personal income tax on employment income: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Bahrain, Bermuda, Brunei, Cayman Islands, Kuwait, Monaco, North Korea, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tonga, United Arab Emirates, Vanuatu.

Does "no income tax" mean no tax at all?+

No. These countries can still charge VAT or sales tax, import duties, property taxes, social security or pension contributions, and work-permit or residency fees. Some tax corporate profits, investment income or property gains even without a personal income tax.

Do I still owe tax at home if I move to one of these countries?+

Often yes. Leaving a high-tax country does not automatically end your obligations there, and some countries, including the United States, tax citizens on worldwide income wherever they live. Residency rules decide this, so check with a qualified adviser before relying on a move to save tax.

Which US states have no income tax?+

9 states levy no state income tax on wages: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, Wyoming. Federal income tax still applies in every state.

How accurate is this list?+

It reflects the rates in our 2026 data, which are planning estimates and are checked against official sources over time. Tax rules change, so confirm with the country's tax authority before making a decision.
